It is a gray January day. A man wakes up groggy and alone. He hears his front door close.

Notes:

Written for #OneWordPrompt's Winter prompt.

Typeface: TrixiePlain (which is rather funny, if you think about it)

I'm being experimental again.

My favorite version is:

right
i know we met just
to keep
the cold away

i haven't
this isn't
last night
i'd been drinking

wait
will FATE let you stay?
how will i find you
to pay?

tell me
when
the snow melts

The poem can be read top to bottom, left to right:

i haven't this isn't right
i know we met just last night i'd been drinking
to keep the cold away
wait tell me
will FATE let you stay?
how will i find you when the snow melts
to pay?

It can also be separated into several pieces:

right
i know we met just
to keep
the cold away

wait
will FATE let you stay?

how will I find you

i haven't
this isn't
last night
tell me
when
to pay?

i'd been drinking
the snow melts

---

i know we met just last night i'd been drinking
how will i find you when the snow melts

---

From bottom to top:

how will I find you
will FATE let you stay?
wait
the cold away
to keep
i know we met just
right

to pay?
when
tell me
last night
this isn't
i haven't

the snow melts
i'd been drinking

Otherwise, read into it what you will; I had a certain lonely image in mind when I wrote it. I can't really give the poem a "mature content" warning, though, since it isn't -- although it can be interpreted as such.

The wording is supposed to be simplistic to reflect the narrator's state of mind.

As usual, comments & critique are welcome.

Did you read it a certain way?

Whiteout by ~mreid973 Suggester Writes: You might learn more about yourself than the writer with this poem, which invites you to read a great many meanings out of a handful of words. ( Suggested by ShadowedAcolyte and Featured by Beccalicious )
